PROBOLINGGO – Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities are activities carried out by companies as a form of concern for the environment and local communities. Realizing the importance of this, Sinarmas LDA Maritime through its subsidiary, Maritim Batubara Pertama (MBP) held CSR Bina Lingkungan 2023 activities on Monday (19/06/2023) to Tuesday (20/06/2023).

In this activity, MBP also collaborated with the younger generation through the Environmental Engineering Student Association of Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” East Java. This activity was held at SMKN 2 Kraksaan and MBP office in Paiton, Probolinggo. This CSR activity carries the theme of Bina Lingkungan 2023 entitled ‘Synergy to Create A Sustainable Environment’ (SUSTINERI).

 

CSR Activities at SMKN 2 Kraksaan

CSR activities at SMKN 2 include community development kick-off, zero waste socialization, biopore and “waste bank” socialization and biopore installation in the school garden. This CSR activity targets students with a target of around 630 participants. By installing biopores in the school area, it is expected that the results in the form of compost fertilizer can be seen in August. Bina Lingkungan 2023 activities are carried out in order to provide support and technical assistance to SMKN 2 Kraksaan to obtain the Adiwiyata Nasional Mandiri predicate.

The event was inaugurated through a symbolic release of pigeons by MBP President Director Abdul Hafid and Principal of SMKN Kraksaan 2 Sumariadi. In addition, the inauguration ceremony was also completed with a symbolic handover of biopore planting from MBP President Director Abdul Hafid and Head of the Environmental Engineering Student Association of UPN Veteran East Java Firza Ramadhan to the Principal of SMKN 2 Kraksaan Sumariadi.

MBP President Director Abdul Hafid revealed that the corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities organized by PT Maritim Batubara Pertama (a subsidiary of Sinarmas LDA Maritime) aim to create a positive impact on the environment and local communities. The existence of CSR is expected to increase employee and community awareness of environmental preservation.

“Through this activity, the company is committed to contributing to sustainable development and maintaining a balance between operational activities and environmental protection. This is closely related to PT Maritim Batubara Pertama, which already has international standard ISO 14001 certification for environmental management systems,” Hafid explained.

Meanwhile, the Principal of SMKN 2 Kraksaan, Sumariadi, said that he fully appreciates the support provided by SLM and MBP. This activity is able to provide positive value for students to contribute more to waste management around the school. For information, currently SMKN 2 Kraksaan has received the Adiwiyata award at the provincial level.

“We hope that this activity can support SMKN 2 Kraksaan to achieve the National Adiwiyata level in 2024. In addition, with this activity, we hope that the water resources at SMKN 2 Kraksaan can be managed properly and the plants can look more beautiful than before,” said Sumariadi.

 

CSR Activities at MBP Paiton Office

Not only organizing CSR activities in the school area, Sinarmas LDA Maritime through its subsidiary, namely Maritim Batubara Pertama also organized similar activities in the Paiton office area. The event began with a symbolic handover of cooperation plaques and biopores from the Chairman of the Bina Lingkungan 2023 Event Fajar Shufi to MBP President Director Abdul Hafid. In the event, there was also a socialization of ecoenzym and biopores aimed at all MBP employees.

By conducting various initiatives in nature conservation in the work environment and its surroundings, environmental and employee health and tree planting, the company seeks to maintain the sustainability of the surrounding nature. The company also has a work culture that cares for the environment, including minimizing the use of paper, plastic, processing heavy equipment washing waste and saving vehicle fuel, sorting waste and reducing the use of plastic in the workplace and holding several socialization activities including the themes of Zero Waste, Biopori and Eco Enzyme.

On this occasion, the Chairperson of the Environmental Engineering Association of UPN Veteran East Java Firza Ramadhan revealed that Bina Lingkungan (Community Development) is one of the work programs of the Community Social Department. The Bina Lingkungan 2023 work program aims to realize the ‘tri dharma of higher education’ at the point of community service and reach all components of society with the aim of fostering the surrounding environment to remain sustainable and take part in handling environmental pollution. Bina Lingkungan in 2023 collaborates with PT Maritim Batubara Pertama, a company engaged in coal distribution and wants to participate in environmental preservation of course with the existing program in the company, namely the CSR program.

“This Bina Lingkungan 2023 activity is located at SMKN 2 Kraksaan, which is in line with our school partner’s goal to become a Adiwiyata Nasional School in 2024. In this activity we planted 80 biopores in the school area. In addition, we also planted 30 biopores in the MBP company area. Another material that we brought was Eco Enzyme and direct practice of making it. My hope is that all the knowledge conveyed can be implemented by all students, staff, and teachers, as well as all levels of the PT. MBP company both within the scope of the school, company, and surrounding community and it would be better if the knowledge can be channeled to the wider community so that the environment is maintained in the future, “explained Firza.

Maritim Batubara Pertama focuses on community development through supporting the youth community. This is the background of this CSR activity. MBP hopes that the company can play a role in equipping young people with the skills and knowledge necessary for a future generation of Indonesians who are more concerned with sustainable environmental preservation.

“Through collaboration with youth communities and educational institutions, PT Maritim Batubara Pertama (as a subsidiary of Sinarmas LDA Maritime) hopes to create strong environmental awareness among the younger generation and inspire them to become agents of change in maintaining the sustainability of environmental conservation in the future. Green my earth, blue my sea (hijau bumiku, biru lautku).” Hafid concluded.
